In Conversation with Tanya Buchanan, Editor-in-Chief of Australian House & Garden

Thomas Hamel is one of Australia’s leading tastemakers. Born in Virginia, Hamel studied design in New York and London before working at the world-renowned Parish-Hadley design studio, where he developed his signature aesthetic – a timelessness that references significant trends but never depends on the tides of fashion to make a mark, and which combines global cultural influences in a fluid manner that he refers to as “cross-pollination” and “intelligent editing.” He founded his eponymous design firm in Sydney in 1991, becoming a fixture of both the local and international design community.

His Creative Director Becky Yager is also an American, joining the team in 2016. She has a wealth of experience in high-end residential interior design, having worked for Nate Berkus, Tom Stringer Design Partners, Alessandra Branca and Frank Ponterio. Her award-winning work has been featured in Architectural Digest and many other publications.
