A gorgeous rug can change the dynamics of an entire room. Choose a standout piece and it only needs a few simple pieces of furniture to create an elegant feel. A sensual fabric can be a blissfully tactile thing to sink one’s feet into after a long day. Rugs are as important an aspect of interior design as the right art or sofa.

In 2018, Decor + Design is set to feature leading rug wholesalers and suppliers from around Australia. These companies are at the vanguard of style and quality, with a rug available for every conceivable kind of residential or commercial project.

Herewith our guide to some of the best rug companies which will be on show at Decor + Design this year.

UNITEX

The best affairs are family affairs. Unitex Rugs began as a father and son duo in 1991; they’ve burgeoned to become one of the largest and most sophisticated rug suppliers in Australia, with a team of twenty.

Unitex now have an impressively large distribution centre in Alexandria, in the heart of Sydney’s design precinct. Their beautiful onsite showroom showcases their core collection and international designer brands. Shipping up to 3000 rugs on any given day via their sophisticated distribution network, Unitex also supply a range of retail stores.

We’re particularly fond of the designs they stock from studio Brink & Campman, whose rugs are in on-trend colours and made using high-quality materials in a range of textures.

Unitex will be displaying key picks from their collections at Stand J26 of Decor + Design 2018.

THE RUG COLLECTION

The Rug Collection has recently celebrated ten years in the business – and with good reason! Their diverse collections include Australian designs handmade by artisans in India. They’ve also now expanded into a furniture collection.

Given the current consumer concern with sustainability, it’s worth noting that The Rug Collection embrace Fair Trade practices and only the highest quality materials, which include wool, wool blends, artsilk and high-grade leather.

One of our favourite rugs from their collection is the ‘Cuba’ in Silver/Charcoal. This luxury hand-knot rug is made with New Zealand wool and bamboo silk.

GHADAMIAN & COMPANY

Based in Moorabbin, Victoria, Ghadamian & Company have forged a niche in the market with their tasteful and expansive collections of rugs.

Ghadamian have built a fantastic online store, which can be searched by very specific colours; an indispensable tool for the professional interior designer.

Their ‘Modern’ collection features geometric as well as abstract designs. We love this colourful, multi-splash rug which is reminiscent of a Jackson Pollock painting.

BAYLISS

Bayliss is a company with serious heritage. Established in 1938 in Melbourne by Jack Bayliss, it is now a third generation family business with trade rooms in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. Their continual commitment to innovation means that they boast one of the most enviable rug collections around.

All Bayliss rugs are created using high quality fibres – in particular, New Zealand wool, linen, silk and viscose. They are also the exclusive stockists for the delectable rugs from Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren.

We are particularly fond of the ‘Quarry’ rug range in hand-tufted Tencel. Squishy perfection.
