Now in its 12 year, the VIVID design competition continues to celebrate new and emerging designers across the furniture and lighting sector.
This coveted industry platform has been elevated in 2014 thanks to a new partnership with Beacon Lighting that awards this year’s winner an incredible $5000.
Since their Melbourne launch in 1967, Beacon Lighting has enjoyed a long, successful history in Australia and now services over 80 lighting stores across the country.
So what makes Beacon shine above the rest?
“Beacon Lighting has a long history of travel around the world for creative inspiration, education and buying,” said Scott Robinson, Senior Category Buyer / Lighting Designer Beacon Lighting. “Each year, we also send our executives on retail study tours focused on retail best practice all over the world. We regularly travel the globe looking for the latest in lighting trends, design and technologies.”
We quizzed Scott on why Beacon are passionate about supporting new design talent and why they’ve switched on the green light across their product range.
Why did Beacon Lighting partner with VIVID design competition at Furnitex and Decor + Design this year?
Beacon Lighting has a key focus on delivering the latest design trends from all over the world to the Australian market. Through our travels and trend spotting, we have come across great designs from emerging Australian designers.
Through a collaborative approach, we would like to help young designers and artists in producing and bring their designs to market.
Why is it important to support emerging designers at Beacon?
We have generally looked overseas for great lighting design, however with our world class production capabilities and global design networks, we feel that we can help emerging artists get there designs noticed on a national and international stage
Aside from the incredible monetary prize of $5000, will Beacon Lighting consider stocking one of the designers in store?
Yes we would love the opportunity to help these designers in producing and promoting great Australian design.
How important is environmental commitment at Beacon? What are some of the policies and initiatives you have in place to ensure a green light?
Energy efficiency is a major focus for the business both from a product as well as environmental and energy saving solution perspective producing, improving profitability for our business. One of the business under the Beacon umbrella is our Beacon Solar division specializing in PV residential and commercial solar systems.
One of our highest selling categories is our large range of LED products ranging from exterior flood light, downlights, flush mounts and decorative pendants.
